Sks is a solid rifle but there isnt anything it does better than an ar15. And given that the prices are pretty close now (350 for the worst chinese sks, mid-high 400s for a polymer ar15) i dont see much of a reason to get an sks over an ar unless you dont live in a free state. In a general bug out SHTF situation where concealing your weapon is not an issue, you're likely to be on foot and can only bring as much gear as you can cary on your person, I strongly believe that the SKS, in it's "as issued" unmodified state, is the best weapon.
